We all know Diabetes Type 2 is increasing at a staggering rate. We also know that sugar and processed foods are the main triggers for developing Diabetes Type 2. But what if I told you there were some very surprising triggers for diabetes?
Here are 5 triggers you may not know about:
SOCIAL ISOLATION – Research has shown that social isolation is linked to a greater risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Social isolation tends to lead to depression, and depression is a risk factor for developing diabetes. So, if you find yourself sitting home alone most weekends, join a social group or volunteer and get out there to meet new people – your health depends on it.
AVOIDING COFFEE – Coffee lovers rejoice; there’s even more reason to enjoy a cup or two of coffee in the morning. According to a Harvard University study, people who added an extra cup of coffee lowered their risk of developing diabetes by 11%. Drinking coffee seems to promote steadier blood sugar levels. One to three cups per day is good. Please do NOT add a bunch of sugar or artificial creamer to your coffee or you are defeating the purpose. Try it black or add a bit of real half and half.
STATINS – Prescription medications have a tendency to do more harm than good. Sadly, most medical doctors are only taught how to diagnose and prescribe drugs and surgery to “cure” people. Thousands of Americans are prescribed statins each year to get their cholesterol down. Statins have been linked to an increased risk in developing type 2 diabetes, according to a 2010 analysis of 13 studies that followed 91,000 individuals.
BACTERIA – Latest research has found a link between certain bacteria and an increased risk of developing insulin resistance and glucose tolerance, two symptoms of type 2 diabetes. Researchers believe that the colonization of staph bacteria can lead to weight gain which in turn increases a person’s odds of developing type 2 diabetes.
ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS – Artificial sweeteners have been shown to increase blood sugars due to the changes they make to gut bacteria. Researchers from Israel found that artificial sweeteners caused significant changes to the gut flora, leading to increased glucose tolerance. STAY AWAY FROM MANMADE SWEETENERS!!!!!
